President Joe Biden has attacked “anti-transgender bills” that safeguard vulnerable children from irreversible surgery.
In a statement, Biden also praised those “who affirm the identities” of gender-confused children and renewed his commitment to support “transgender Americans of all ages”.
An accompanying fact sheet detailed the US Government’s efforts in advancing transgender ideology, including this week’s roll out of ‘gender-neutral’ passports.
The Biden administration criticised what it called the “proliferation of dangerous anti-transgender legislative attacks that have been introduced and passed in state legislatures around the country”.
This was in reference to recently passed legislation in states such as Alabama, Arkansas and Texas seeking to protect minors from transgender drugs and surgery, legislation which the Government claimed will “stigmatize and worsen the well-being and mental health” of children with gender dysphoria.
Biden has called such state legislation “hateful” and demanded the elected officials stop.
The administration said it is the “right” of children with gender dysphoria to receive “gender-affirming” drugs and surgeries and laid out proposals which would give them access to the irreversible treatments.
Earlier this week, the Department of State announced: “U.S. citizens will now be able to select an X as their gender marker on their U.S. passport application”.
In their selection, applicants who say they are ‘non-binary’ or ‘gender non-conforming’ are no longer required to declare their biological sex on the official document, fulfilling an election pledge from the Biden administration.
According to the Department’s guidance, those who wish to change their gender on an existing passport “do not need to provide any documentation (medical or other)” in order to do so.
Earlier this year, the White House reversed changes made by the previous administration which prevented men who identify as women being housed with female prisoners.
