‘We’re inflicting permanent harm on children’, says trans clinic whistleblower

Children are being permanently damaged by the way the American medical system is treating gender-confusion, a whistleblower has revealed.

Jamie Reed was responsible for patient intake and oversight at the Washington University Transgender Center at St Louis Children’s Hospital.

Reed, who describes herself as a “queer woman” and “married to a transman”, described what is happening to scores of children as “morally and medically appalling”.

‘Lasting damage’

In a sworn affidavit, Reed stated that she witnessed healthcare providers lie to parents and the public about the “effects of treatment provided to children at the Center”.

She also saw “children experience shocking injuries from the medication the Center prescribed”.

Reed said the centre downplayed the harms inflicted and pushed transition.

She recalls many encounters showing “how little these young people understood the profound impacts changing gender would have on their bodies and minds”.

‘Disturbing’

The Center claims that puberty-blocking drugs are “fully reversible”, but Reed noted how they can cause “lasting damage” such as early menopause, reduced bone density and mental health problems in children going through normal puberty.

Reed said “many patients had depression and anxiety symptoms” which “became more severe” after they started taking “cross sex hormones”.

She pointed out a “disturbing” lack of regard for parental rights and accused doctors of treating parents who only wanted therapy for their children as if they were “abusive, uneducated, and willing to harm their own children”.

Reed says she raised concerns internally for years, but was told to stop questioning the “medicine and the science” and the authority of the doctors. An administrator at the centre allegedly told her and a colleague to “get with the program or get out”.

Investigations

Following her report, Missouri’s Attorney General Andrew Bailey and U.S. Senator Josh Hawley called for investigations into the clinic.

Senator Hawley called it “a sickening account of forced sterilization and child abuse. Happening in Missouri at an institution that receives federal taxpayer funds.”

The Missouri Department of Social Services and the Division of Professional Registration will determine if action needs to be taken.
