Free abortion pills are now available at the ‘press of a button’ from a new machine in Warsaw.
Under the scheme, pregnant women are given six-digit access codes for the parcel locker when they contact the abortion activist group Women Help Women (WHW).
While abortion is illegal in Poland except in cases of incest, rape or where the mother’s life is deemed to be in danger, the group claim its ‘Abortomat’ is not breaking the law as the pills are dispensed by machine.

WHW boasts that the 22-compartment locker “stays open when everything else is closed” and requires “no waiting room, no gatekeeper, and no explanation”.
It explains: “The Abortomat is a fully functional parcel locker. You press a button, and it dispenses abortion medicines. That’s it. No metaphors, no performance, no stunts.”
Organisation Director Kinga Jelinska said: “You can order underwear, cosmetics, mascara, whatever and receive it practically the same or next day, why not abortion pills?”
WHW’s Lucía Berro Pizzarossa claimed that women using the Abortomat were experts in their own lives, “so nobody’s better positioned — not the law, not the doctor, not the church, nobody. We trust you with that and we accompany you through the decision”.
‘Great evil’
The Christian Institute’s Angus Saul described the Abortomat as marking “a new low in the ‘commodification’ of abortion”.
He warned: “Abortion pills are not ‘accessories’, they take the life of an unborn child and expose vulnerable women to dangerous complications.
“May God open the eyes of the women behind this scheme to the great evil they are doing.”
