March for Life: ‘Abortion wounds families’

Pro-life supporters have gathered in their thousands at March for Life UK to highlight the far-reaching consequences of abortion.

Under the banner ‘Abortion Hurts the Family’, thousands marched in London seeking to raise awareness of the tragedy of abortion for the whole family.

In the UK, abortion is currently permitted for most reasons up to 24 weeks, and up to birth if the unborn child is deemed to have a disability. Earlier this year Parliament voted to allow women to abort up to birth.

Grief and shame

Addressing marchers in Parliament Square, CitizenGo’s Caroline Farrow said: “The child lost to abortion may already have brothers and sisters. There may be a father who wanted his baby and was told to keep quiet.

“There may be grandparents willing to offer support who never knew that their grandchild existed. There may be a mother carrying grief which everybody expects her to forget. Every abortion ends a life and tears through a family.”

Ahead of the event, the campaign group recognised that when speaking out against abortion, “the focus is usually on the mother and the baby, and rightly so, as they are directly involved. But after 58 years of legalised abortion in the UK, we have seen more clearly that the impact doesn’t stop there”.

Through this year’s march, organisers hope “to raise awareness of how abortion wounds families, damages relationships, and leaves many people suffering in silence”.

Rising death tolls

Latest statistics reveal that one in three pregnancies in England and Wales end in abortion.

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on conception rates in 2023 shows that while there has been an increase in pregnancies, a higher increase in abortions has led to fewer babies being born overall.

The ONS reported that 279,970 unborn children were aborted in 2023, an increase of 13 per cent from the previous year.

In May, Public Health Scotland’s annual figures revealed that there were 18,783 abortions in 2025, breaking the previous year’s record total of 18,717.
