Over 30,000 March for Jesus in Belfast and Dublin: ‘A celebration for Jesus in full public view’

Tens of thousands of Christians have taken to the streets across the island of Ireland to march for Jesus.

The March for Jesus in Belfast saw around 8,000 people take to the streets in August, and in Dublin at the end of September an estimated 25,000 people marched to proclaim Jesus as King.

The marches were organised by Pastor John Ahern from All Nations Church in Dublin. He described them as “an evangelical initiative, not an ecumenical one”, aiming to proclaim the love of Christ through public witness, worship, and prayer.

Extravagant celebration

March for Jesus described it as “an extravagant worship celebration for Jesus in full public view”.

Pastor Ahern said: “There were a lot of people a year or two ago who couldn’t have ever envisaged themselves at something like this, but there were so many young people there.

“In an interview at the parade there were guys admitting they’d been involved in drugs and criminality and all sorts of darkness, and that Jesus Christ had set them free.”

‘Politely ignored’

However, the pastor expressed disappointment in the lack of media interest in Dublin, saying there were no interview requests in the lead-up to the march: “It’s quite strange. Because in the run up to the Belfast parade I got about 25 requests to do radio and newspaper interviews.”

He blamed a “woke consensus; if it doesn’t fit within that it’s just politely ignored.”
