Abortion

Abortion

The Bible teaches that all human life is created in God’s image and so is intrinsically valuable from conception. At The Christian Institute we therefore seek to defend the sanctity of life.

Abortion – destroying life somewhere between conception and birth – is wrong. The Bible states that the deliberate taking of an innocent human life breaks the sixth commandment: “You shall not murder”.

In total, there have now been more than 10 million abortions in Great Britain since the 1967 Act was passed.1

Decriminalisation

There are currently ongoing attempts by pro-abortion MPs to decriminalise abortion. This would mean that a woman could have an abortion for any reason at any stage of her pregnancy without fear of prosecution.

Not only would this increase the number of abortions taking place, it would also increase the likelihood of women experiencing painful and dangerous side-effects as a result of taking abortion pills at home without medical supervision.

Labour backbencher Tonia Antoniazzi tabled an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill which would allow a woman to kill her unborn baby at any stage of pregnancy without sanction. MPs voted by 379 to 117 in favour of the amendment. The clause was then considered in the House of Lords, where an amendment was tabled to remove the extreme proposal from the Bill. Despite opposition, Peers voted to reject the amendment and retain the clause by 185 votes to 148.
