US show ‘spreading the gospel of polyamory’

Polyamory – intimate relationships between three or more people at the same time – “is quite normal already, it’s just not out of the closet yet”, said the stars of a US reality TV show.

Michael McClure and Kamala Devi are starring in Polyamory: Married and Dating, and are currently living with McClure’s girlfriend Rachel.

“They’re spreading the gospel of polyamory, hoping to speed up societal acceptance of this kind of set-up,” ABC’s Nick Watt explained.

Devi and McClure, who also have a six-year-old son, declared: “I really think that society in ten years is going to be like ‘this is a new paradigm'”.

In August a BBC investigation in the UK concluded that monogamy was out of fashion and polyamorous relationships could become the norm.

BBC presenter Jo Fidgen questioned whether there was still room for sexual fidelity in a “society where choice is everything” after Radio 4 aired the documentary – Monogamy and the Rules of Love.

Mastermind

Earlier this year polyamorous groups in Canada and New Zealand started campaigning for the same legal rights as other relationships.

In New Zealand calls began within weeks of the same-sex marriage law being voted in by Parliament.

In March the politician who masterminded the gay marriage campaign in Holland said that ‘group marriage’ was now being discussed in the country.
