US politician stands by comments challenging radical gender ideology

Senior US politician Ben Carson has come under fire for voicing concerns over men being admitted into homeless shelters for women.

Dr Carson reportedly highlighted the issue of women feeling unsafe because men were given places in the shelters by simply claiming to be female.

He says the current policy fails to, “take into consideration the rights of everybody, including those women — many of which have suffered at the hands of male domestic abusers — who believe there are men who might hurt them”.

‘Identity politics’

Two Democrat politicians introduced a resolution to Congress criticising Dr Carson, the Housing and Urban Development Secretary.

But Dr Carson responded to the outcry: “Our society is in danger when we pick one issue (such as gender identity) and say it does not matter how it impacts others”.

“I think we have to look out for everyone, and we need to use our intellectual capabilities to find common good rather than attempting to always stir up controversy through identity politics”, the former presidential candidate added.

‘Uneasy’

In the UK this month, veteran broadcaster John Humphrys hit out at the BBC for its acceptance of transgender ideology.

Humphrys said: “If you take something like transgender, their mindset is such that we must kind of accept what the prevailing view is”, but that their idea of the prevailing view is often wide of the mark.

He continued, “I’m uneasy about children being told in schools there are more than 100 different genders and it’s possible for someone to change gender overnight.

“I’m worried about where it’s heading.”
