US Government awards funding to pro-life group

President Trump has announced a new grant for a pro-life pregnancy organisation, while cutting funds for abortion providers.

The Obria Group will receive up to $5 million in Government grants to provide healthcare services.

The policy has been described as a ‘victory’ for the pro-life movement.

Support

Obria provides a range of services for women, including counselling, prenatal care, adoption referral and post-abortion support.

Kathleen Eaton Bravo, founder and CEO of The Obria Group, said: “Many women want the opportunity to visit a professional, comprehensive health care facility — not an abortion clinic”.

She added, “this grant will give them that choice”.

‘Fundamental truth’

The US Government also announced plans to strip funding for abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood.

The current taxpayer-funded ‘Title X programme’ – which provides contraception and health tests – will be revised to prevent money being used for promoting or performing abortions.

President Trump previously used his 2019 State of the Union address to “defend the dignity of every person”.

He asked congress to “reaffirm a fundamental truth: all children – born and unborn – are made in the holy image of God”.
