UK politicians recall HM Queen Elizabeth II’s enduring faith

Politicians across the UK have paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen’s Christian faith.

While mourning Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, they highlighted that her life of service to her country was grounded in her love and submission to Christ.

Christian MP Nick Fletcher said that through Her Majesty’s faith, she “showed the rest of the world what a life in Christ looked like — a life of faith, hope and, most importantly, love”.

‘Selfless’

At Westminster, Fiona Bruce MP the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, said The Queen was respected for speaking “publicly, clearly and baldly of her Christian faith” in many of her Christmas messages.

The Special Envoy explained that The Queen was able to sustain a life of “dedicated and selfless service to others” because she recognised “in a very real and personal way” that she was accountable to a higher authority than her own.

Similarly, Jim Shannon MP remarked that “she never bowed the knee to any power on this Earth, yet she willingly bowed to Jesus and served him faithfully. In giving Jesus her heart, she was able to dedicate her all to us”.

Humble and faithful

In the House of Lords, Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell told peers that The Queen’s service “came from her profound faith in the one who said, ‘I am among you as one who serves.'”

Lord Sentamu added: “Humbleness was, for her, born out of having Jesus Christ at the centre of her living, her thinking and all her goals, her rejoicing and even in moments of sadness.”

In the Senedd, Darren Millar MS said that “she made pledges throughout her life, to serve God in the best way that she could, to be the best monarch that she could be” and she “championed the Christian faith that was so central to her life”.

DUP Leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP stated: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was faithful unto death. She was faithful to her God. She was faithful to her people. And she was faithful to her family.”
