Professor John Lennox, an Oxford mathematician and apologist, has spoken of his Christian convictions on one of the world’s top podcasts.
Steven Bartlett invited Lennox onto ‘The Diary of a CEO’ to explain why he believes Christianity is true and to explore what it means to be human in an age of artificial intelligence (AI).
The episode, entitled ‘No.1 Christianity Expert: If You DON’T Believe In a God You NEED to Hear This!’, has reached over a million views on YouTube.
Bigger picture
Lennox explained to Bartlett that Christianity is the “bigger picture” that makes sense of this world.
Reflecting on his scientific background, he stated: “What we trust in ought to be evidence-based.” He continued: “I claim exactly the same thing for Christianity, and that’s why I’m a Christian because I believe the evidence supports it.”
Asked where the journey of faith begins for someone who is spiritually curious, Lennox said: “God is a person”, explaining, “if you are ever going to get to know a person, you’ve got to begin to give up your distance”.
He pointed the podcaster to Jesus Christ, who “became human so that he could give us life and give us a new relationship with him”.
Image of God
Bartlett asked what it is that makes humanity special in a time where you can have complex conversations with an AI.
Lennox stated that AI is “made in the image of humans”, while humanity is “made in the image of God”.
He told Bartlett: “When I look at you, I see someone who’s of infinite value made in the image of God, and so what I say to you or think about you is hugely important to me. And I wish you well”.
