Super Bowl coach: ‘I’m a child of God’

Ahead of Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl triumph, the team’s offensive coordinator spoke of his faith in Christ.

Klint Kubiak, who has since been announced as new lead coach at Las Vegas Raiders, told Sports Spectrum he had learned that “your identity is not in your job; our identity is in Christ”.

Alongside studying the Bible, he said that fact “took a really heavy load off just knowing that I’m a child of God”.

‘A relationship with Jesus’

Spending time reading God’s word, he explained, helped him realise that “football is something that I do, but trying to be a good father and faithful husband is way more important than any of that”.

The successful 38-year-old tactician presented all Seahawks’ coaches and players with a Bible at Christmas, saying it was the “most important thing” he could do as a demonstration of his love for them.

Reflecting on his generosity, Seattle assistant head coach Leslie Frazier said: “It meant a lot. It meant a lot to everybody in our building, just that he would do that.

“His whole point of it was he wanted everybody to be able to find out what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is the starting point, having a Bible.”

Growing faith

In his postgame conference, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald also spoke of his faith in God.

He told reporters: “My faith hasn’t always been strong. You have doubts, it’s kind of a roller coaster ride, and over the last few years it’s been really strengthened.”

During 2025, team chaplain Jonathan Riley focussed his chapel messages on the life, teaching, and miracles of Jesus.

At the weekend Seattle Seahawks defeated New England Patriots by 29 points to 13 in American Football’s Super Bowl LX. An estimated 127.7 million people watched the game.
