Second video emerges in ‘baby parts for sale’ probe

A second video has been released as part of a long-term investigation into US abortion group Planned Parenthood.

The footage, recorded secretly by The Center for Medical Progress, shows another senior member of Planned Parenthood ‘haggling’ over the price of body parts from aborted babies.

News of the alleged practice broke last week prompting Congress to investigate the organisation. Further footage is expected to be released in the future.

Costs

In a fresh blow to the abortion giant, Dr Mary Gatter, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Medical Directors’ Council, is seen negotiating prices with undercover investigators posing as representatives of a tissue procurement company.

She says: “We don’t want to be in a position of being accused of selling tissue and stuff like that. On the other hand, there are costs associated with the use of our space and all that kind of stuff. So what were you thinking about?”

When one of the investigators asks her to open negotiations, Gatter says: “Well, you know in negotiations the person who throws out the figure first is at a loss”.

Dr Gatter concludes negotiations saying, “let me just figure out what others are getting, and if this is in the ballpark, then it’s fine, if it’s still low, then we can bump it up”, before joking, “I want a Lamborghini”.

Making money

Gatter also talks about the different methods used to carry out an abortion and says that she would ask a surgeon to use alternative procedures so as to increase the likelihood of obtaining “whole specimens”.

Last week Dr Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s Director of Medical Services made similar comments in another video.

At one point Dr Nucatola says the Planned Parenthood centres want to provide tissue in a way that does not give the perception her clinic is “making money off of this”.

The footage also shows her talking about some people manipulating the position of the baby in the womb to more reliably get particular vital organs. She says, “we’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver”.

Denial

The President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, apologised in the wake of the first video and said that the allegation that Planned Parenthood profits in any way from tissue donation is not true.

In a statement following this latest episode Planned Parenthood said it was unable to “confirm the authenticity of this tape”.

A version of the video lasting over an hour is available on The Center for Medical Progress’ Youtube channel.

Investigation

After the first video was released, Republican Congressman and House Speaker John Boehner said he would ask Congress to investigate.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee said it would look into whether foetal body parts were illegally sold for profit, while the House Judiciary Committee has also announced a probe.

Boehner commented: “When an organization monetizes an unborn child – and with the cavalier attitude portrayed in this horrific video – we must all act”.
