New York legalises abortion up to birth for any reason

New York state has passed a law to make it even easier to have an abortion, giving it the most liberal laws in the US.

The Reproductive Health Act had been blocked for the last twelve years, but became law on Tuesday, following a vote in the state Senate.

It was previously a crime to kill an unborn child after 24 weeks, but this has now been removed from the state’s penal code.

Abortion on demand

The new law declares that all women who become pregnant have the “fundamental right” to have an abortion.

The change in legislation also allows medics who are not qualified doctors to carry out abortions.

After 24 weeks, abortions will now be permitted if the mother’s “health” is endangered, effectively legalising abortion up to birth for any reason.

Infanticide

The New York State Right to Life group says the law will actually go much further in practice.

It warned that pregnant women whose babies are killed in violent assaults will no longer be able to seek justice, as those who end the life of an unborn child are no longer culpable of homicide.

It also said that the removal of protections relating to failed abortions is tantamount to “authorizing infanticide”.

‘Lethal injections’

New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered a number of buildings, including One World Trade Center, to be lit up pink to “celebrate” the passing of the Bill.

The pro-life Radiance Foundation said: “Governor Cuomo ordered One World Trade Center – a memorial to the thousands killed by senseless violence and hate – to be lit up in pink to celebrate the unrestricted violence of abortion that treats the unborn with more antipathy than criminals.”

Lila Rose, founder of Live Action, another pro-life group, also expressed disgust at the new law, saying “now children up until the ninth month of pregnancy can be given lethal injections and poisoned to death. This is no different than infanticide.”
