Mums outraged at bondage drag act for parents with babies

A drag show for parents and toddlers has been cancelled following backlash after footage emerged from an event in London.

Dancers were filmed in highly sexualised clothing, performing inappropriate acts surrounded by parents with their babies on play mats.

One mum said that “no child should be exposed to a man in a fetish thong or normalise any of that stuff. What happened to fluffy bunnies and Beatrix Potter? Aren’t kids allowed to stay innocent now?”

Highly inappropriate

CabaBabaRave was part of the 2023 Vault Festival programme and described as a cabaret show “with sensory moments for babies”.

Footage showed one dancer dressed in bondage gear doing acrobatics while suspended from straps attached to the ceiling, another man performed handstands in stilettoes and lingerie while a topless woman is shown holding up a baby.

Sherlock actress and mother of two Amanda Abbington was accused of being “transphobic” on Twitter for pointing out that the show was not appropriate for babies.

The organisers initially tried to defend the show saying it was ‘carefully curated’ and that babies would not understand what they saw.

Normalising

Last month, the Tate Britain hosted “Drag Queen Story Hour” sessions at the gallery’s Play Studio in London despite calls for it to be cancelled.

And in January, RuPaul’s Drag Convention, supported by children’s TV programme Teletubbies, described itself as “family-friendly” and parents were encouraged to bring along their young children.
