Mum whose quintuplets pic went viral rejected abortion

An Australian mother whose picture of her five children swept the internet rejected aborting three of her children.

After the initial ultrasound Kim Tucci was told she could “consider the selection method” where particular children are aborted but others are left.

But writing on Facebook, she said: “I could never do that!”

Heartbeat

Kim wrote that she already loved her children and that with every heartbeat she connected with them more.

“I will do whatever it takes to bring them into this world healthy”, she added.

Kim and her husband Vaughn already had three children and conceived the quintuplets naturally – something which is said to only occur once in every 55 million conceptions.

‘Toughest battle

The four daughters and one son, called Tiffany, Keith, Penelope, Beatrix and Allie, were born in January. A team of 50 doctors and nurses assisted with the birth.

Kim wrote about the experience online, saying she went through pain, sleepless nights and a 6,000 calorie-a-day diet to sustain the children.

Despite feeling like her body was “shutting down” during the pregnancy, her body “fought the toughest of battles to get five babies here safely”.

Invaluable husband

She has also thanked her husband for supporting her throughout the experience: “Without him I would have broken down a long time ago,” Kim wrote.

Kim and Vaughn’s story has gone viral with reports in the UK, Canada, India and the USA. Nearly 300,000 people are following the family’s journey on Facebook.
