Indiana becomes latest US state to implement near-total abortion ban

Fifteen US states have now introduced stringent safeguards protecting the unborn since the overturning of Roe v Wade.

Indiana’s Senate Bill 1, signed into law only six weeks after the United States Supreme Court ruling in June 2022, has finally taken effect after an appeal against its implementation failed.

According to #WeCount, an estimated 25,640 fewer abortions took place nationwide in the nine months following the judgement which returned abortion law to state legislatures.

Innocent lives saved

On 21 August, Indiana’s highest court denied a challenge to the state’s pro-life legislation by the abortion giant Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union.

In a 4-1 decision, the justices ruled the plaintiffs “cannot show a reasonable likelihood of success” in their attempt to overturn state protections for children in the womb.

Indiana’s Attorney General Todd Rokita heralded the news a defeat for “pro-death advocates” and a victory for “innocent, unborn babies”.

‘Lost fatherhood’

A US study has shown that 71 per cent of men experience “adverse changes in themselves” after an abortion loss.

In a survey commissioned for Support After Abortion, many men reported depression, guilt, anger, a “sense of lost fatherhood”, and other emotions.

According to the study: “Because the societal conversation surrounding abortion is primarily about women, men’s grief is often disenfranchised.”

The report was based on a 2021 online survey of 1,000 men aged over 18 who had personally experienced an abortion.
