‘I almost died’: Woman slams Planned Parenthood over botched abortion

A Pennsylvanian woman has spoken out against Planned Parenthood after a botched abortion almost took her life as well as that of her unborn child.

Speaking of the traumatic experience, Wendy Burpee explained how the abortion at a centre run by the US abortion giant required emergency surgery to save her life. She is now the Director of two pro-life women’s clinics.

MPs are expected to have a free vote next week on amendments aimed at decriminalising abortion in England and Wales. This would allow a woman to kill her unborn baby at any stage of pregnancy without sanction.

No support

Wendy told the ‘Exposed’ podcast how she had her first abortion at 19 years old.

She said: “I knew that abortion was wrong. I was raised to believe that and I, I did believe that, but when you’re terrified and you’re alone, and there’s only one other person who’s saying, just ‘why don’t we just go over and see what they have to say’. And so we went in.”

Describing how she was given no information or counselling, despite being visibly distressed, she said: “I was crying, shaking, and a woman came in and said, ‘Well, you know, here’s some medication. This is going to help to calm you down.’ They said the doctor would be in to talk with me shortly. I waited, and then I woke up in the recovery room, and the abortion had already happened.”

Coerced and abused

A year later, Wendy found herself in the same position, but with a new and abusive boyfriend. She told the podcast: “looking back at who I am today, I could have said I’m having the baby”. But explained: “I was so weak-minded at that point, and so controlled by him.”

they were there to protect my abuser

She shared how she had visible bruises where her boyfriend hit her and that when she went to Planned Parenthood the second time she was “an abused woman. And you would think it would be, you know, number one priority, ’cause they say they’re there to protect women.

“But I think that day they were there to protect my abuser, because they really joined with him that day in coercing me into aborting my second child.”

Within 24 hours, Wendy knew something was wrong and rushed to the emergency room where she was given life-saving treatment including a blood transfusion, and surgery to repair her uterus.

Defending motherhood

Wendy now speaks out against abortion, and counsels women who have had similar experiences to her own: “I understand the fears and concerns of an abortion minded woman. Having almost lost my life after a failed abortion, I understand the trauma of this experience first-hand.”

At the Genesis women’s clinics she runs, she explained, we “attack the circumstances, not the baby. And so, we take notes and we look at like, what does this woman need to be able to take on motherhood”.

She added: “I really struggle with the idea of Planned Parenthood receiving millions of dollars in funding when so much harm is being done to women.”

Wendy told religious liberty group Alliance Defending Freedom: “I almost lost my life to a botched abortion. Why would anybody want to fund that?”
