Christian Lioness nominated for major football award

A Christian football player who starred for the English Lionesses this summer has been nominated for the best young female player of 2025.

Michelle Agyemang, who is 19 years old, is one of five women nominated for the Ballon d’Or Women’s Kopa Trophy. She has already been named UEFA’s Women’s EURO 2025 Young Player of the Tournament.

The Arsenal youngster is part of discipleship group Ballers in God, which currently helps over 600 players meet for Bible study and prayer across the globe.

The 19-year-old can also be seen praying before matches, and wears socks with crosses on them.

Speaking after the Lionesses’ victory at the Euros, Agyemang said it is “only by the grace of God” that she has reached this point in her career and thanked him “for where he’s brought us as a team”.

Posting on Instagram, she declared: “1 Corinthians 15:57 – But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

‘God is great’

Earlier this year, members of Crystal Palace team gave glory to God following its FA Cup win. The trophy was the first in the club’s history, but rather than exalting themselves, the Christians within the squad used their time in the spotlight to point to God.

Eberechi Eze, who scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Manchester City, fell to his knees and put his hands together in a sign of prayer after the ball hit the back of the net, before making a cross with his fingers and pointing to the sky.

On social media after the game, he posted several pictures from the final, saying: “God is great”, “God’s mercy” and “Only God”.

And following Palace’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool at the weekend, Eze posted a picture of himself with the silverware, and captioned it: “Glory to God!”
