A Christian politician has used a speech in the Canadian parliament to give a short message on the real meaning of Christmas.
Ted Falk received a standing ovation after he told fellow politicians that Jesus is the light of the world.
Last year he used a speech to share the Gospel at Easter.
‘Light of the world’
Mr Falk began by stating that at this time of year, “we celebrate with lights all around us. We decorate our trees, our offices, our homes.”
“As Christmas approaches, let us remember that there was and is one light above all others, and that is God’s son Jesus.
“Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’.
“And Jesus called us to be lights, as well. He said, ‘you are the light of the world; let your light shine before others.’”
‘Jesus’ love’
Falk continued: “Mr Speaker, let the lights all around us this Christmas remind us to be guided by the one true light, and reflect the light of Jesus’ love in our lives.
“May we all be the light that brightens this world. Mr Speaker, Merry Christmas.”
The politician received a standing ovation from colleagues following his speech.
Conscientious objection
As well as highlighting the true significance of Christmas and Easter, Falk has also spoken up against assisted suicide.
He told the Canadian Parliament that he believes in the sanctity of life “from conception to natural death”,
He also petitioned in favour of protecting freedom of conscience for doctors who do not wish to perform physician-assisted suicide.
And in 2016, he refused to attend a Gay Pride march due to his religious beliefs, and called on others to respect his right not to attend.
