A baby born at 22 weeks and one day celebrated his second birthday by visiting the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that saved his life.
The boy, named Tuff Born, was born at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in the US state of Georgia, weighing just over 1lb. Staff at the hospital were overjoyed to see him thriving two years on from his premature birth.
In Great Britain, abortion is currently permitted for most reasons up to 24 weeks, but up to birth if the unborn child is deemed to have a disability.
‘Blessed’
Mum Michela Born shared that, at one point, they were preparing Tuff’s funeral arrangements. Now, she described him as “a wild man! He is the epitome of a crazy toddler”.
She said her son is a “fighter”, and that the family is “just so blessed, that’s all I can say is we’re blessed.”
NICU Dr Shae Evans said: “Tuff is a kid that just inspires everyone. I think about him and his tiny self when he came out, and then the kid he is today, running around.”
Neonatal nurse Dixie Bonds added: “I was able to have a front row seat to God’s work and the miracle that he is”.
Humanity of the unborn
Life News shared Tuff’s story, commenting: “Some people say unborn babies like him are blobs of tissue or clumps of cells. But he proves unborn children are HUMAN BEINGS! And now he’s two years old doing great!”
Right to Life’s Catherine Robinson said: “Baby Tuff certainly has an appropriate name. He, and babies like him, born so prematurely, are a constant reminder of the humanity of unborn children, and we hope his story encourages others to protect and support the lives of our most vulnerable children”.
Born at just 22 weeks and 1 day, doctors didn’t expect Baby Tuff to survive.
But he proved them wrong.
Today, he’s a thriving 2-year-old—the youngest baby ever discharged from his Georgia NICU.

Pro-life organisation Live Action wrote: “Most hospitals don’t even try to save babies born before 22 weeks. Tuff was given a chance—because he was born one day later. Imagine how many more lives could be saved if every baby received the same fight.”
In June, MPs voted to allow women to abort their unborn baby at any stage of pregnancy without sanction, including up to birth.
