Ashers ‘hasn’t broken any laws’, says Institute solicitor

Ashers Baking Company’s owners have not broken any laws by declining to produce a pro-gay marriage campaign cake, The Christian Institute’s Solicitor Advocate has said.

Sam Webster, speaking at the Waterfront Hall event in support of Ashers, clearly laid out the legal position of the Christian-run bakery.

He said the McArthur family have rights to freedom of thought, conscience, religion and expression.

Over 2,000 people squeezed into the Waterfront in Belfast for the event.

Hundreds who were unable to get into the venue stood outside and sang hymns in the cold.

General Manager of Ashers, Daniel McArthur, Christian hotelier Hazelmary Bull and others also spoke.
