MSPs set out case against assisted suicide
The Scottish Parliament voted on Tuesday 17 March 2026 to reject a Bill to legalise assisted suicide by 69 votes to 57. Crucially, twelve MSPs who previously backed the Bill in principle switched to voting against it in the final vote.
During the debate, MSPs from across the Chamber exposed the Bills failings and highlighted the serious dangers of legalising state-funded suicide.
