New hate crime measures could ‘immensely’ impact free speech

The Christian Institute’s Director Ciarán Kelly warns against the Home Secretary’s plan to record more non-crime hate incidents. He highlighted that many people’s details have been permanently kept by the police, even for the most trivial of reasons, which would show up in employment checks.

The Institute’s Head of Policy and Research David Greatorex warns that Liam McArthur’s assisted suicide Bill would foster a culture of despair in Scotland. Under the proposals, the choice to die, he argued, would very quickly become a duty to die for the vulnerable. Mr Greatorex called for true compassion to be shown to the terminally ill, and for palliative care to be made available to all in need.
