A border town in Texas has declared itself the first “Sanctuary City for the Unborn”, banning abortion within the town.
Waskom, in East Texas, passed a ‘resolution and ordinance’ after its City Council members voted unanimously to ban organisations that perform abortions from the town.
Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics will now be regarded as criminal organisations in Waskom.

Protecting the unborn
The ordinance reads: “The Supreme Court erred in Roe v Wade when it said that pregnant women have a constitutional right to abort their pre-born children.”
The idea was brought to the council by Mark Lee Dickson, Director of Right to Life East Texas.
Dickson was frustrated that officials in Austin, Texas’ legislative capital, were not passing any “meaningful legislation that protects unborn life”.
Gateway town
The adjoining state of Louisiana has recently introduced laws to protect women and the unborn.
Dickson said people were concerned this would prompt abortion providers to set up clinics in Texas to encourage women from Louisiana to travel for a legal abortion.
He added that abortionist groups have previously considered moving to Waksom, known as the ‘Gateway of Texas’, to provide abortions for women in a 200 mile radius.
But Dickson said the city would instead reject abortion and focus on Amos 5:15: “Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate.”
