A US father says a school undermined his effort to protect his autistic daughter from transgender ideology by treating her as if she was a boy.
Jay Keck said his 14-year-old daughter suddenly became convinced she was “a boy trapped in a girl’s body” after meeting another young person who believed they were transgender.
Now 18, the unnamed woman is legally allowed to get testosterone injections.
Autism
Keck supports other families struggling with similar issues and says his daughter – who is on the autistic spectrum – “first came out as transgender to her school”.
Staff members backed her decision, began using male pronouns and allowed her to use a ‘gender neutral’ toilet. They did not tell Keck or his wife.
The parents met with school staff and asked them to refer to their daughter by her legal name but they refused.
Fearful
Keck and his wife went to a psychologist who told them that their daughter’s sudden transgender desire was driven by her poor mental health.
However, Keck says that fearing a backlash, the report the psychologist submitted to the school did not include those concerns.
Keck said he had found parents who were similarly scared – “afraid to speak out because we are told we are transphobic bigots”.
‘Convinced’
He concluded in the USA Today article: “Now, thanks in large part to my daughter’s school, my daughter is more convinced than ever that she is a boy, and that testosterone may be necessary for her to become her authentic self.
“She turned 18 in late June and life-altering, dangerous testosterone injections are just one ‘informed consent form’ away.
“She can turn to any one of Illinois’s 17 Planned Parenthood clinics for cheap and easy access.
“No extensive mental health assessment will be required, and there will be nothing I can do to stop her.”
Fearful
On Twitter, in response to his article, Keck was sworn at, described as an ‘awful parent’ and branded a ‘transphobe’.
In the UK, senior psychotherapist Marcus Evans spoke out about fears parental anxieties about transgender ideology were being ignored.
Evans – who until February was a Governor overseeing the NHS’s flagship gender centre for children – warned against hurrying young people “down the path of no return”.
