'Quickie divorce' is passed
by the Scottish Parliament

The Family Law (Scotland) Bill was passed by the Scottish Parliament on 15 December. Sadly MSPs voted to overturn amendments by the Justice 1 Committee which had watered down the Executive’s proposals for ‘quickie divorce’. MSPs instead supported the Executive’s original proposal to reduce waiting times for ‘no fault’ divorce from two years to one if both spouses agree and from five years to two where one spouse does not. We believe this measure will increase the rate of divorce – and the suffering that inevitably goes with it.
