Speakers

The speakers include: Colin Hart (Director of The Christian Institute), Caroline Eade (charity lawyer at Taylor Vinters Solicitors), Rod Badams (Administrator at the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches), Trevor James (charity accountant at Sheen Stickland) and Sam Webster (solicitor-advocate at The Christian Institute).

Colin Hart

Colin has been the Director of The Christian Institute since its inception, having previously been a maths teacher. From being the only staff member in 1990, Colin has seen The Institute grow to have 33 employees today. The Institute seeks to help Christians be salt and light and so influence a secular world. It does this through its research, publications, conferences, website, and work in the media. Colin has been involved in many campaigns to protect gospel freedom, including national initiatives in the area of charity law. In 2006 he established our Legal Defence Fund to help support legal cases of national importance for religious liberties.

Caroline Eade

Caroline is a committed Christian and a solicitor in the not-for-profit team at Taylor Vinters Solicitors in Cambridge. She works with clients across the not-for-profit spectrum including charities, religious and educational organisations, trade associations and public sector bodies. Her work encompasses questions of governance and corporate structure, regulatory and compliance matters, contracting and joint working arrangements and the legal aspects of fundraising. Caroline is also a trustee of the Jubilee Centre in Cambridge.

Rod Badams

Rod is a former journalist specialising in local government, and former General Secretary of Christians at Work. He has been Administrator at the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches since 1998 providing advice to churches on legal and practical topics. Rod is also a member of Affinity’s Social Issues Team and has been editor of Affinity’s The Bulletin since February 2006. Rod is based in Market Harborough with his wife Margery.

Trevor James

Trevor is a partner at Sheen Stickland, a leading Chartered Accountants firm in the charity field and is based in Chichester. He has overall responsibility for the firm’s charity and not-for-profit unit, which provides pro-active advice and services to organisations that range from small local groups to international charities. Trevor is also Vice-Chairman of the Charity and Voluntary Sector Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, serves on the Charity Law Association tax committee and is a founder member of the Expert Witness Institute. Trevor is an elder and Sunday School teacher at Swanfield Chapel.

Sam Webster

Sam is The Christian Institute’s in-house solicitor, managing the religious liberty cases supported by our Legal Defence Fund. Having trained with a leading international law firm, Sam has now been in legal practice for ten years and has specialised in litigation since qualifying in 2001. As a solicitor-advocate, he is also qualified to represent clients as an advocate in the higher courts in England and Wales. Sam lives in the North East with his wife and four children.
