On This Day: The Christian Institute began

August 1 1991 saw the foundation of The Christian Institute. Some 25 years later we are still seeking to be a Christian influence in a secular world.

It was then that we officially became a company, beginning a strategy of producing publications, carrying out research and hosting conferences.

Colin Hart had left his job as a teacher a few years earlier to begin the work following an unexpected donation of £20,000, operating out of his spare bedroom.

Remarkable

Now the Director of an organisation with over 40 staff and working on issues as diverse as extremism and sex education, Colin gives thanks to God.

“Looking back, it is remarkable to see how God has provided for the Institute”, he says.

Acknowledging the “many challenges” of the last 25 years, Colin notes that “in every circumstance, all our needs have been met”.

“I continue to give thanks to God for all that he has done.”

God is good

The Christian Institute began providing regular printed newsletters for supporters in 1991 with news, book reviews and articles on ethical issues.

Our newsletters remain popular, and we have expanded across social media and online to continue to provide supporters, and the wider public, vital information on key ethical issues.

Over the coming months, we will be remembering some of the work we have done, including legal cases, parliamentary milestones and campaigns.

For all of this, we give thanks to the LORD, “for he is good; his love endures forever”, Psalm 107:1.
