No 10 under fire for inviting ‘Porn Idol’ organiser

Downing Street has been forced to review its guest policy after a man who runs “Porn Idol” evenings at a London nightclub attended an official function at Number 10.

Jeremy Joseph runs the G-A-Y London nightclub as well as a weekly night at a separate club where men strip naked in attempt to win money.

Mr Joseph attended a Downing Street event last month designed to celebrate the ‘importance of the role gay people play in national life’.

Invite

One guest at the event said people were “astonished” to see Mr Joseph there. “Many gay people regard his shows as distasteful,” the guest said.

A Number 10 aide involved in arranging the function told the Mail on Sunday: “We did not know Mr Joseph organises the event you describe and we will look into this with regard to invitations to future events.”

The aide said the reception was for “prominent members of the gay community and people who have done a lot of fundraising”, and added that Mr Joseph had raised large amounts of money for homosexual charities.

Pink vote

An undercover reporter from the Mail on Sunday attended a Porn Idol event and described it as “an unedifying ‘talent’ contest”.

The reporter, James Millbank, spoke to one unimpressed woman there who described the show as “horrible”.

Last year David Cameron became the first Conservative Prime Minister to host a Downing Street reception for prominent homosexual campaigners and celebrities.

A national newspaper branded the move part of a “concerted drive to woo the ‘pink vote'”.

Former Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown both held Downing Street receptions for homosexual activists during Labour’s 13 years in Government.
