Institute Update Issue 2 - May 2002

A mountain of paper that all needs filing

There is no room in our offices for any more filing cabinets. The amount of research material which needs to be systematically stored could easily be overwhelming. But thanks to the filing system, it is all kept relatively under control.

And it has to be. We must have the latest research at our finger-tips when we respond to an issue. There may be one crucial statistic or research paper which demolishes an opposing argument.

We file Hansards, journals, reports and research papers. Newspaper cuttings are filed in date and subject order. All the files are tracked on a database.

But we are running out of room in our cramped offices and it is becoming difficult to find room to store new files. Nevertheless, the filing system is a crucial part of the research workflow and we couldn’t work without it.
