Scottish Parliament to investigate Executive’s sex and drugs lessons

Education officials are to be quizzed by the Scottish Parliament over their recommendation of extreme sex and drugs education resources.

The Parliament’s Education Committee will take evidence from Learning and Teaching Scotland, the Government quango responsible for publishing the recommended list.

The issue was forwarded to the Education Committee by the Public Petitions Committee after it heard evidence from Revd Iain Murdoch.

Revd Murdoch organised a 11,500-strong petition, calling on the Parliament to tell the Executive to stop backing the resources.

After seeing the evidence, members of the Education Committee have now unanimously condemned the sex education materials as inappropriate. Their investigation continues.

This development will put further pressure on the Scottish Executive, which is already showing signs that they may drop their recommendation of these materials.

Revd Murdoch said that the packs, which include advice on the safe way to take some drugs and also feature activities such as group sex, “sideline morality and encourage children to break the law.”

The Christian Institute first revealed the shocking contents of the material back in March 2001 and has been pressing for the Executive to stop backing them.
