Institute Update Issue 2 - May 2002

Our dedicated team of mailing volunteers

Keeping you, our supporters, up to date with the latest developments is one of the most important parts of our work. But we could not do it without our dedicated team of mailing volunteers.

Co-ordinated by Mrs Pat Johnson, the mailing team give up their spare time – often at a moment’s notice – to mail out thousands of letters, briefings and booklets. With a mailing list now approaching ten thousand, that’s no mean task.
Mrs Johnson said: “I started helping the Institute over eight years ago. We would mail out 250 letters in one afternoon and think we were hard pushed! But just the other week ten of us sent out 7,500.”

“There are volunteers from all sorts of different churches. We all enjoy the fellowship, and of course we all want to help the Institute in whatever way we can. The way I look at it is this: if we do the mailings then that frees up the staff to get on with the sharp end of things.”

“I must say, though, it’s getting quite difficult these days. We do the mailings in the Institute library and we can’t use more than ten people. And now that there are two full-time staff using the library as their office – cramped is not the word!”

“But it has been a real joy to see the work of the Institute grow, even if that does mean more mountains of mail to send out!”
