About the draft code

In 2009 the body responsible for regulating the teaching profession in England consulted on a new Code of Conduct. The code set out the basis on which a teacher could be disciplined or dismissed. The code, as it is was drafted, could have had a profoundly secularising effect on state schools and affect the religious liberty of teachers. But in July 2009 the wording of the code was altered to allay fears that a Christian teacher could be disciplined because of their faith.
