Bill Parry tried to sue a church that refused to treat him as a woman.
The Government has postponed a Parliamentary debate on new transsexual discrimination laws which impact on religious liberty.
MPs and Peers were scheduled to debate the measures today (Thursday 13 December). But technical drafting problems in the proposed regulations means the debate will be moved to the new year.
The delay gives more time for religious liberty concerns to be raised.
The regulations include a powerful harassment provision which could lead to Christians being sued for expressing their religious beliefs on transsexualism in some circumstances.
Other measures mean that faith-based adoption agencies could face legal action for refusing to place children in a household headed by a transsexual.
The Government's Equalities Office has published a response to The Christian Institute's religious liberty concerns. In it, they say they deliberately drafted the regulations to ensure that church bookshops would be caught by the proposed laws.
